My Philosophy of Art Education
"...the most important thing is to make art fun and engaging for my students; without art, we would live in a boring world."
My purpose as an art educator is to…
• Instill a love of art making and its history in all of my students
• Develop my students’ appreciation for the visual and performing arts
• Allow my students to become individuals who can express his/her ideas without the fear of being mocked or ridiculed
by their peers
• Foster my students’ critical thinking skills through class critiques, while enhancing their visual literacy
and communication skills
• Allow my students to experience various cultural artworks in order to bridge the cultural gap between my students
and the ever-changing world around them
• Ensure that my students develop open minds and become well-rounded individuals to achieve success in the classroom,
as well as the future
The statements above explain why I want to teach students. I feel there is no greater reward than knowing I can make a positive
impact in the lives of my students day after day. As an educator I have the opportunity to give my students the love and attention
they may long for, to be a positive role model, and a person they can come to in a time of need. I am a fountain of knowledge
they can come to for answers, and a guide when they are struggling and need help. I want my students to be successful in life,
but the most important thing is to make art fun and engaging; without art, we would live in a boring world.
